2017 Domaine Rostaing Côte-Rôtie “Ampodium”

Côte-Rôtie has the most beautiful amphitheatre of vineyards alongside the river Rhone, breathtaking steep slopes peppered with vineyards. Young Pierre Rostaing, who is Rene's son, took over in 2015. He has been on a roll, making some of the best wines in Côte Rôtie from his family's choice parcels in La Landonne, La Côte Blonde and Côte Brune. His most known and important holdings came to him through his marriage to Albert Dervieux’s daughter. His total vineyard holding is 8 hectares and his most famous holdings are Côte Blonde and La Landonne.

Why do we like it?

The Ampodium is Rostaing’s signature blend from various parcels across the appellation, using 95% wholebunch to great success. The wine itself has a dark inky colour which is an indication of the concentration and richness to come. The palate shows incredibly pure, dark fruit with a textbook note of violets and licorice, then comes a touch of black pepper, a wine with an incredible capability of aging.
