From the Glaetzer family in Barossa Valley, South Australia. In 2005 Nick Glaetzer, the passionate young winemaker, moved to Tasmania in search for a great cool climate terroir. He is the 5th generation of winemakers and Nick keeps impressing everyone, not only for this great Pinot Noir, but also for creating the first ever Shiraz in Tasmania.
Anyway, back to the Pinot Noir, “Rêveur” means ‘dreamer’ in French. It is a wine produced solely from Pinot Noir in the Coal River region and is revealing a beautiful bouquet of fresh herbal scents, alongside red plum, maraschino cherry, and a light elegant touch of spice.
Dry in the palate, with high acidity, rounded body with ripeness in the fruit, it ends long, smoky and spicy on the palate. Absolutely delightful.
Why do we like it?
Since it has now nearly 5 years of age, it is ready to drink, but you can certainly keep for several years to come, it would be very interesting to see how this wine will show for example in 15 years. I would generally prefer to recommend poultry or white meats with Pinot Noir, but with this one, I am just inclined to go with grilled salmon, fatty buttered mash potato and of course green cos lettuce leaves to balance. No need for decanting, as Pinot Noir is a delicate grape, serve at about 14 degrees.
