2017 Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage Red

The Domaine was established in 1481, it is now the 16th generation looking after the estate, representing one of the oldest winemaking families in France! The perfume and power of their Hermitage are unparalleled. The family is a great example of tradition and craftsmanship. Gerard (Jean-Louis father) brought it to worldwide fame in the 70s and Jean-Louis took over in 1992. He has managed to keep the high standard of quality and has replanted vineyards on the family's original estate in Saint-Joseph which had been abandoned in the early 1900's. As traditionalist as they can be, the key to the perfect balance of their wines is the process of blending their vintage cuvées from their expertly farmed array of sites, each with its own character, to create singular blends of great nuance, harmony, depth and aging potential.

Why do we like it?

The first time we tried this wine it was in the town of Tain l'Hermitage itself. A generous friend of ours served it as a blind tasting. It was incredible, the wine was so perfumed, showing great finesse and a gentle smoky black fruit and black olive character. We took immense pleasure tasting what was in the glass. A remarkable wine that will stay with you long after you have finished the bottle.
