2020 Jean-Louis Chave Cote-du-Rhone 'Mon Coeur'

The Domaine was established in 1481, it is now the 16th generation looking after the estate, representing one of the oldest winemaking families in France! The family is a great example of tradition and craftsmanship. Gerard (Jean-Louis’s father) brought it to worldwide fame in the ‘70s and Jean-Louis took over in 1992. He has managed to keep the high standard of quality and has replanted vineyards on the family's original estate in Saint-Joseph which had been abandoned in the early 1900's.

The Chave family's methods for their winemaking include traditional farming, super low yields, full ripeness, and minimal manipulation. Their unmatched meticulousness continues through five centuries to give some of the most respected and purest expressions of the northern Rhône wines character with great nuance, harmony, depth and aging potential.

Why do we like it?

’Mon Coeur’ is a blend based on Syrah with a touch of Grenache and Mourvèdre. It’s a truly delicious wine that shows a wonderful core of dark berry fruit supported by a framework of ripe tannin with cooling, granitic notes and a sleek, sophisticated texture. It is readily approachable now, you don’t have to keep this wine for too long, drink it during the next few months and enjoy the freshness and purity of the fruit character along with those wonderful rosemary, violet and black olive notes!
