2018 Jeremy Arnaud Chablis 1er Cru 'Vau de Vey'

Jeremy Arnaud has chosen to do things his own way before taking over the family estate, from his own words: “It was important to me to start from nothing, to prove myself, and to freely assert my convictions.” He bought a half hectare parcel in 2016 while completing his oenology training and makes fewer than 5000 bottles a year but has also planted small parcels at higher densities. He is kind of a rising star in Chablis and uses his prime parcels in the excellent and naturally made wines that are textured and full of minerals.

Why do we like it?

His plot of Vau de Vey is about 40 years old. He farms with minimal inputs and grows grass between the rows on this very steep site to prevent erosion. He harvests by hand, works in the cellar by taste and minimizes sulfur and other interventions. The result is a wine of elegance, energy, and balance full of fresh lemon, white pear, delicate nuttiness and an intense sense of minerality. Those are distinct and precious wine made in Chablis, simply stunning!
