2018 Julien Sunier Regnie Beaujolais

When it comes to choosing some of the greatest producers of Beaujolais, there is no doubt in our mind that Julien Sunier is amongst the very best there is. He belongs to the exciting group of Beaujolais producers that make the region so exciting at the moment!

Julien was born in Dijon to a non-winemaking family, but caught the wine bug from a friend of his parents: Christophe Roumier (great producer in Chambolle-Musigny, Burgundy), and therefore decided as a young man to pursue a career in wine. After studying oenology and viticulture at university, Julien did work experience with Roumier, Jasper Morris MW (the leading Burgundy specialist) and a few harvests in New Zealand and California.

Why do we like it?

Julien follows the principles of Julien Chauvet, all the work in the vineyard is done by hand, the wines are little extracted, vinified with semi-carbonic maceration and aged in used Burgundy barrels. It's worth noting that there is plenty to celebrate when it comes to the 2018 vintage in Beaujolais, a lot of outstanding wines came out of the region due to the hot and dry growing season. Julien Sunier Regnie 2018 is a lacy and ethereal wine which blend the natural exuberance of Gamay and the great complexity of warm vintages. It's a wine of character with alluring touch of cherries, raspberries and blueberries rolled in a mix of sichuan pepper, cinnamon and dried orange peel. An addictive bottle!
