2016 Chateau Haut-Marbuzet, Haut-Medoc, Bordeaux

With origins from the 18th century, Chateau Haut-Marbuzet was established by Alexander de Segur, who also owned the much better-known St. Estephe vineyard, Calon Segur. At his death, the land was divided and sold. After changing hands a few times, it finally became to be owned by the Duboscq family to this day. He built the vineyards of Chateau Haut-Marbuzet from 7 hectares up to 58 hectares over time! In 1962, Herve Duboscq was joined by his son Henri Duboscq, who now manages Haut- Marbuzet with his two sons. Their vineyards are planted with 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, and 5% Cabernet Franc.

Why do we like it?

It is indeed a super fine Bordeaux, from a spectacular vintage. One that you can keep for several years to come. Silky texture and well-defined juicy black fruits character. It's a very well balanced wine, the tannins are superbly integrated and there is plenty graphite, leathery and earthy notes. Rich and dense with infinite complexity, from ripe black cherries, black berries, to violet, to charred bell peppers, cigar box, leather and baking spices.
