Borgogno is one of the most historically important estates based in the township of Barolo. We seriously love Borgogno, these are classically styled wines that not only age well for decades but offer complexity and drinkability at fantastic prices. These wines grace the pages of the best wine lists and enoteca's around the world for good reason. Proprietor Oscar Farinetti has engineered a remarkable turnaround at Borgogno over the last few years while continuing to celebrate the estate’s historic past and produce wines in the similar traditional style. The vineyard size is about 30 hectares, from which about 60% is cultivated with Nebbiolo, with the remainder divided between Dolcetto, Barbera and Freisa and 5 hectares for white grapes.
Why do we like it?
What a great value this wine is, it's a pretty intense yet juicy Barbera showing ripe red cherries and a touch of blackberries. A great structure of firm tannins combined with significant freshness. It's intense but yet there is a delicacy manifested by notes of rose, wild herbs and violet which are jumping out of the glass. A wine that is layered, gracious and simply remarkable! To pair with your favourite Italian dishes based on tomato sauce.
