2020 Castro Martin Albarino 'A2O' Sobre Lias

Bodegas Castro Martin is a winery located in Rias Baixas, in the northwest of Spain, on the Atlantic coast, just above Portugal. Rias Baixas has 5 subzones, the largest of them is the Salnes Valley, referred to as the capital of Albarino grape. The soils are mainly alluvial on a bedrock of granite and quartz due to its proximity to the Rias (Atlantic coast river estuaries). It rains quite a bit and as a result it is a very green part of Spain but the Ocean helps moderating the temperature the year around.

Back to Castro Mastrin, which bodega’s history traced back as far as 1887 and is still owned and run by the founding family.  The current owner-winemaker is Angela Martin, who is committed to make the best wines possible; the viticulture is as natural as possible.

Why do we like it?

The sourced vineyards for this wine sit at an elevation that is an average of 400 metres and the vines are between 20 to 50 years old. This is a Sobre Lias which means “on the lees”. It is an extended ageing process of the fine lees that are left over after fermentation. This intensifies the wines by adding richness, flavour and aromas. Expect wonderful aromatics such as orange blossom, apricot, peach and lime zest with a round palate and tons of freshness
