Clos Figueras has a fascinating history that spans several decades. The winery was established in 1997 by Christopher Cannan, a British wine merchant, and René Barbier, a renowned winemaker. They saw the potential of the Monsant region, in the northeast of Spain and set out to create exceptional wines that showcased its terroir. The estate itself is located in the village of Gratallops, known for its long winemaking tradition and very steep vineyards. Cannan and Barbier worked tirelessly for 8 years to restore the vineyards, carefully selecting grape varietals that would thrive in the region's unique microclimate and soils.
Why do we like it?
Over the years, Clos Figueras gained recognition for its commitment to quality and sustainable practices. The winery focuses on small-scale production, allowing for meticulous attention to detail at every stage of the winemaking process. The Serras del Priorat is a captivating expression of Grenache with a touch of Carignan, Syrah & Cabernet Sauvignon. It offers an enticing bouquet of ripe blackberries, dark cherries, and a touch of Mediterranean herbs and displays a velvety texture and well-integrated tannins. The fruit flavours is showing great persistence, with a lovely balance between sweet and savory notes. No new oak was used to make the Serras del Priorat, therefore there is a ton of freshness and fruits that we really like for a wine from that region!
