2020 Clos Marie ‘L’Olivette’, Pic Saint-Loup, Languedoc

The story of Clos Marie begins with Christophe Peyrus and his wife, Françoise Julien, together in 1995 acquired the estate from his grandmother (Marie). Back then it consisted of old vineyards planted on limestone and clay soils in the foothills of the Cévennes mountains. Right from the beginning, the philosophy of Clos Marie has been focused on organic and biodynamic practices… we say it often, but is for good reason, these wines produced in this way have a different life, have more resilience and taste way more intensely. Today the Domaine vineyard holding sit at 23 hectares, in its cooling breezes blowing down from mountains.

Why do we like it?

The name "l'Olivette" refers to the olive grove that was previously planted where the vines are now. All grapes are handpicked, partially destemmed, placed in vats for an extended period with frequent pump over to gently extract colours and tannins. The nose is perfumed with a generous mix of red and black fruit, savoury herbs such as rosemary, wild bush like garrigue, and dried clay inorganic minerality revealing sunbathed vineyards. Decant and serve in nice large glasses at 16 degrees.
