Domaine Leflaive has been entirely a family domaine since its creation. While the domaine’s history can be traced back to Claude Leflaive in 1717, it was Joseph Leflaive in 1905 who began to construct the modern version of the estate, expanding holdings from two to 25 hectares. Based in Puligny-Montrachet, it is a highly regarded producer focused almost entirely on white wines. Under the leadership of the late Anne-Claude Leflaive, the estate converted to biodynamic farming practices in the 1990s, one of the very first to do so in Burgundy. Today, her nephew Brice de La Morandière, who has had a successful career running multinational companies, continues her philosophy of organic, biodynamic viticulture, bringing Chardonnay grapes to their best possible expression.
Why do we like it?
Macon is an area that we love in Burgundy as it represents great value for money. The Mâcon-Verzé 'Le Monte' from Leflaive comes from an 1 hectare parcel on flinty soil. The vines are 50 years of age. The wine display a touch of green fruit and fresh citrus with a delicate round palate and a tight bright finish. It's a bit lighter than the Pouilly-Fuissé with a mouth-watering and long finish.
