2017 Kaesler ‘Stonehorse’ Grenache, Barossa Valley

Back in the 1840s, the first owners of Kaesler were Silesian, they came to the Barossa Valley in the 1840s and took up 96 acres in 1891. They planted Shiraz, Grenache, and Mataro for reds. Some of the gnarled, dry-grown Shiraz remains and provides the backbone of the intense wines they still produce to this day.

The Kaesler vineyards were owned and operated by the Kaesler family from 1893 to 1986. However, in 1999, renowned agribusiness entrepreneur, Ed Peters and established winemaker Reid Bosward, together with business partners, seized the opportunity to purchase the property. They immediately set about regenerating the famous old vines and creating legendary wines. At this time, the Kaesler vineyards consisted of over 70% red wine vines, all 40 years of age or more.

Why do we like it?

Grenache is a very interesting varietal that fully deserves our attention these days, specially from this region.  The Stonehorse is rich and warm with a sweet fruit character of strawberry jam mix with wood spices. It has great concentration of fruit and juicy tannins with sumptuous finish.
