2021 Fratelli Alessandria, Barbera d'Alba, Piedmont

The Fratelli Alessandria winery is located in the heart of the Piedmont region in northwest Italy and was founded in the beginning of the 19th Century. The estates 12 hectares are now stretched over some of the best crus in Verduno and Monforte. It is one of the longest standing wineries in the whole area, small but beautiful, with very well-located vineyards. It’s all about family at the estate, the owner Gian Battista together with his wife Flavia, his brother Alessandro and his son Vittore proudly carry on their ancestors' tradition and passion for winemaking.

Why do we like it?

The Alexandria brothers make a balanced round Barbera d'Alba from their vineyards, it’s hand harvested from 20 years old vines inside the municipality of Verduno from vineyards located at 380m of altitude. It’s a fantastic example of the grape: fragrant, elegant, driving by fruit power on the mid palate, featuring classic varietal notes of Morello cherry and blackberries. The mouthfeel is soft and round with a touch of spice. This is one of my favourite wines to go with pizza, the juicy, round tannins and delicious fruits character.
