Clos Henri is nestled in the foothills of the Wairau Valley in Marlborough, South Island of New Zealand. Today it is run by Sancerre legend, Henri Bourgeois, and it is run organically. Back in France, their estate is in the sweet spot of the region of Sancerre in the Monts Damnés (synonym with some of the best Sauvignon Blanc in the world). However, we are not talking about Sauvignon Blanc with this wine, we are talking about Pinot Noir. The Bourgeois family go back 10 generations, and today they make beautifully textural and elegant wines, matured in high quality French oak, but most importantly, with high standard in the vineyards.
Why do we like it?
Central Otago is the reference when it comes to Pinot Noir in New Zealand but that wine may make you change your mind. There are some wonderful aromatic quality on the Clos Henri Pinot Noir, sweet cherry, cranberry and strawberry on the nose will lead to a gamey and spice characteristics on the palate. The wine is linear with tremendous acidity and lingering finish.
