This is a small batched wine from an intense winemaker. New Zealand born, Fraser McKinley is a passionate wine guy, after working in Barossa for a vintage, he decided in 2006, with his wife Andrea, to move to Barossa. As a young talented man, with a design background, he started his own label, Sami-Odi. Following this, he began looking after some vines for Adrian Hoffman (4 rows that was) and began to make his own wine, organically farmed wine. Only two Shiraz are released each year. We don't like his wines, we love them!
Why do we like it?
The 2021 Sami-Odi 'Hoffmann Dallwitz' Syrah is a truly exceptional and captivating wine! This 100% Syrah is from the Hoffman Dallwitz vineyard's, and more specifically from their oldest plots planted in 1888 and 1912! The yields are very small, a tiny quantity was made every year (only a bit more than 6000 bottles). Unfined and unfiltered, this wine is simply extraordinary! The colour is deep black with a vivid purple rim. On the palate it is showing ripe blackberry, blueberry and slight dark chocolate notes. Also, the white-pepper, black olives and herbal tones are revealing in the background. The wine has so much depth and complexity, truly outstanding!
