2020 Bonnigal & Bodet, Huit Clos, Chenin Touraine-Amboise, Loire Valley, France

Domaine Bonnigal Bodet is situated in the heart of the Loire Valley, in Amboise, specifically in Limeray. The estate has been passed down through generations since 1927, and since 2015, the 4th generation, represented by Jean-Baptiste Bonnigal and Stéphane Bodet, has been at the helm. The domaine embraces organic and biodynamic practices and have worked in other wine regions such as Bordeaux and around New Zealand.

Why do we like it?

For the Huis-Clos, the Chenin Blanc’s vines are about 85 years old, with yields of 25 hectoliters per hectare, which is very small and help with the concentration and level of complexity of the wine. It shows a very refined nose, with lot of quince, pear and almond. The texture is silky, we can sense the power of the wine but at the same time, a clear elegance and mineral component comes out of the wine. Simply superb, it’s a wine you can age for another 10 years
