Doniene Gorrondona is one of the leading estates of Bizkaiko Txakolina, the small, coastal Basque appellation in northern Spain known for crisp, saline white wines made from the native Hondarrabi Zuri grape. Based in Bakio, on the rugged Bay of Biscay coastline, the estate farms vineyards exposed to the Atlantic's cooling sea breezes.
Why do we like it?
Ondarea is fermented in barrica, giving this Txakolina more texture and complexity than the simple, zesty style the region is often known for. Expect citrus and green apple fruit, a distinctive briny, sea-salt minerality, and a rounder, more layered palate from the barrel ageing.
