NV Champalou Sparkling Brut, Vouvray, Loire Valley, France

Catherine and Didier Champalou come from a rich lineage of winemakers, with Catherine being the 12th generation in her family to produce wine in Vouvray, and Didier, the sixth generation from the Poitou region. Meeting at a viticultural school in Saumur, they decided to start their own winery in Vouvray in 1983. Over the years, they expanded both their vineyard land and label, establishing Champalou as one of the most esteemed in the appellation.

Vouvray is home and it’s blessed with ideal soils and a climate perfect for Chenin Blanc with a long ripening season. The Champalous are true specialists with this noble grape, producing five styles of Chenin, ranging from sparkling to sweet, showcasing Vouvray's finest. They manage twenty-two hectares sustainably, the family embraces eco-friendly practices and incorporates lunar cycles into their viticulture. Céline, their daughter, joined in 2006 and now leads Champalou, ensuring the continuation of the domaine's tradition and quality.

Why do we like it?

It is the closest sparkling wine to rival Champagne in France. A traditional method style, gently rounded, extremely well balanced between the fruit, acidity and bubbles. It’s a wine that tastes of small sweet summer green figs and fragrant quince, absolutely textbook Vouvray. Perfect for an aperitif with some Charcuterie!
