2015 Dominique Portet ‘Estate’ Cabernet, Yarra Valley, Australia

Dominique Portet first encountered the world of wine at the prestigious Château Lafite-Rothschild, where his father, André Portet, was the régisseur (vineyard and winery manager) in Pauillac. Dominique honed his skills at Montpellier University of Oenology and later served as a wine-buying adviser during his compulsory military service. His experience expanded across various regions, including the Médoc, Rhône Valley, Provence, and with Champagne house Moët et Chandon. He also worked in Napa Valley at his brother Bernard’s Clos du Val estate.

The intricate arabesque pattern featured on the labels was created by renowned Greek jeweler Ilias Lalaounis. This design embodies elegance, strength, and a purity of line, symbolizing the deep connections between generations, families, and continents. The inspiration for the design came from a pair of earrings worn by Dominique’s wife, Julia, who first encountered the Lalaounis family during her student years. Over the decades, their friendship has flourished.

Why do we like it?

Because the wine has already a few years of age, you can enjoy it now. But you surely can leave it ageing under the staircase in the dark for another 10 years. Decant it, it may have some sediments. Serve at 16 degrees
