Hickinbotham’s tale starts in 1971 when Alan David Hickinbotham planted vines in McLaren Vale’s Clarendon hills. His dad, a wine science pioneer, inspired this leap. In 2012, the Jackson family took over, reviving the vineyard’s legacy with winemakers Chris Carpenter and Peter Fraser. I’d love to wander those steep slopes, feeling the history in every vine.
Why do we like it?
The 2016 Revivalist Merlot was hand-picked, fermented with wild yeast, and aged in French oak—crafted with care. It’s medium to full-bodied, with cherry and mocha notes, velvety texture, and a plush finish. I imagine sipping it, the rich flavors unfolding like a warm McLaren Vale sunset, subtle cedar hints lingering delightfully.
