2017 Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino, Tuscany, Italy

It all started with Lavinio Francheshi, visiting Florence and quite immediately falling in love with the landscape and the people who lived in the area. Purchasing land here for him was just a matter of time. Il Poggione was one of the first wineries to market the Brunello di Montalcino wine as early as 1900’s and one of the founding members of the Brunello di Montalcino Consortium. Considering over a century has gone by, Lavinio’s work and dedication is still remembered and embraced by Leopoldo and Livia today! They continue to develop the winery with passion, combining the ancient skills of winemaking crafts and tradition with the latest, most innovative techniques.

Why do we like it?

This is a wine with intense colour, very persistent nose and long-lasting palate. Aroma wise, ripe red fruits of sour red cherry, raspberries and cranberries. Due to its high acidity, high alcohol and high tannins we suggest this wine to be matched with pot-roast veal, new season carrots and orange. You may enjoy this bottle while fresh and young even it is already 6 years old, or you can keep it for another 10-15 years without hesitation. It will benefit from decanting and served at about 16 degrees.
