Peter Schell and Magali Gely founded Spinifex Wines in 2001, and for more than two decades, they have called the Barossa Valley home. Their deep dedication to and passion for the region are central to their work. Additionally, they share a strong connection to France, both in terms of their roots and their winemaking philosophy.
Why do we like it?
The Rostein Vineyard is located in the hills of Eden Valley, perched on the east- and north-facing slopes of a secondary ridge just below the main mountain divide between the Barossa and Eden Valleys. Its high altitude results in cooler nights and a broader temperature variation between day and night. The vineyard's soils are composed of a thin sandy loam, abundant in quartz, resting on a relatively pure mica layer, with a base of oxidative red clay over weathered schist or granite. The granitic soils, which are naturally low in fertility, impart wines with a robust tannin structure and considerable strength.
