2019 Benito Ferrara ‘Vigna Quattro Confini’ Aglianico, Irpinia IGP, Campania

Gabriella Ferrara runs this small business, which has been in her family for many generations, precisely for 5 centuries. Together with her husband Sergio, Gabriella is the master mind behind these beautiful wines. Most of the vineyards (25 hectares) are in the Frazione San Paolo of the municipality of Tufo, which is considered the best area for the Greco grape variety.

Planted at an altitude of 550 metres with a southwest exposure in volcanic soils and in vines with 22 years of age – you have a recipe for success. The Quattro Confini was crushed, destemmed with whole grapes and an average maceration of a few days to extract colour and tannins.

Why do we like it?

Aglianico, is a beautiful varietal. Not commonly seen but its quality is on the rise. It is thick skinned therefore late ripening, needing plenty sunlight and heat. Structure wise, this is a full-bodied wine, high in tannins with elevated acidity and elevated alcohol. Aromas of black cherry, blackberry, fig and prune. It’s delicious!
