2019 Franz Haas Pinot Nero, Alto Adige

The Haas family has been growing grapes in Montagna in the province of Bolzano in the Alto Adige for generations, to be more exact since 1880. Franz is currently the 3rd generation and is the one that also brought light on the estate due to the high quality wines he makes. Located in the Alpine region of Alto Adige, in the northeast of Italy, Franz owns 30 hectares of vineyards at different altitudes level. His attention to details and perfectionist attitude has enable him to become of the most respected and leading winemaker in the region. He has always been recognized as a enthusiast and expert on one of the most sensitive and difficult grape to grow: Pinot Nero.

Why do we like it?

Franz’s Pinot Nero vines are located at variable altitudes between 350 and 900 meters above sea level on very heterogeneous terrains. High-density planting ensures the highest quality of the grapes. The wine is aged in a combination of new and old barriques for one year. Such a lovely wine that opens with notes of maraschino cherries and raspberries, combined with cloves, cinnamon and ending with some light earthy aromas.
