2020 Achaval Ferrer ‘Quimera’, Mendoza

Achaval Ferrer begun in the 1990’s with a group of friends and their passion for wine, Santiago Achaval Becú and Manuel Ferrer Minetti. The goal of producing exceptional wines that showcase the unique terroir of the Mendoza region in Argentina was achieved almost immediately. They sought out for old vineyards in some of the best sub-regions of Mendoza, including Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley, known for their high-altitude vineyards and diverse soils. With their philosophy rooted in minimal intervention winemaking and first vintage being released in 1999, Achaval Ferrer instantly gained recognition for their outstanding wines.

Why do we like it?

Quimera refers to something imaginary or difficult to attain, perhaps a wine that is so delicious and so highly regarded that is described as such. With deep crimson hues that stain the glass at each swirl. Its aromas weave fragrances of black fruits, purple flowers, and a strong note of dark chocolate and grinded coffee beans. It’s a wine that will reward the patients as it ages. This wine is an embodiment of time itself, evolving and maturing gracefully with each year passing.
