2020 Ausas 'Interpretacion' Ribera del Duero, Spain

In 2021, Ausàs acquired his first parcel of vines in Nava de Roa, a rugged and stony terroir situated at an elevation of 700 meters. Having worked with these grapes for many years at Vega Sicilia, Xavier values this site for its contribution of subtle, blue floral notes to the blend of Interpretación.

Ausàs is distinguished by its meticulous approach to oak aging. The grapes undergo a cold soak before fermentation, which takes place with native yeasts in stainless steel and concrete tanks. The wine then matures for 14 months in French oak barrels, with only 30% being new, divided equally between 225-liter casks and 500-liter demi-muids. Each parcel is carefully vinified, and blending occurs just prior to bottling, with the wine remaining unfiltered.

Why do we like it?

The wine is ready to drink but will definitely improve over the next 5 to 10 years, it is still very young, Tinto Fino has potential for ageing because of its natural high tannins, but also a warm, ripe alcohol level. You can decant this before serving in nice large glasses at about 16 degrees.
