2021 Giulia Negri ‘Serradenari’, Barolo, Piedmont, Italy

At just 24 years old, Giulia Negri took over her family’s Barolo estate, continuing a 150-year tradition of grape growing in La Morra. With studies in management and biology and inspired by a transformative trip to Burgundy, she returned to Piedmont determined to craft exceptional wines. Her estate lies in the high Serradenari cru, at 536 meters above sea level, where Giulia aims to create Barolos with the elegance of Burgundy. Inherited plots of Chardonnay and Pinot Nero planted on cooler, north-facing slopes allow her to blend the finesse of Burgundy with Piemontese terroir as well. But the focus is on the Serradenari Barolo, the highest cru in the Barolo region, from which she craft an exceptional wine form the unique altitude and diverse soils.

Why do we like it?

Expect delicate floral notes of fresh roses and graceful cherry and plum fruit with a profound mineral essence. The tannins are sandy with fine-grained structure of pure beauty, her wines are captivating with their youthful allure, yet they possess the structure for substantial aging in the bottle.
