Andre Bondar and Selina Kelly’s were finalists for the Young Gun of Wine in 2022. Their wines are captivating and straight delicious. The Rayner Vineyard is nestled amidst the rolling hills and sundrenched valleys of McLaren Vale. This 14-hectare vineyard was bought by Andre and Selina in 2014. With a meticulous approach to viticulture and sustainable practices, they allow the 50 old vines of Grenache to best express themselves. It’s everything we like when it comes to the vineyard work: hand-picked, unirrigated with small yields.
Why do we like it?
This 100% Grenache is fermented with natural yeast and aged six months in ceramic eggs and old French barrels. Unfined and unfiltered, the wine jumps out of the glass with its wonderful flavour intensity! It’s generous with ripe red cherry, rhubarb syrup, and strawberry, the fruit is so confident and happy in a way! It is juicy with some black olive, sage and tea leaf flavours, there is a fair amount of complexity too. The delightful freshness makes this wine such a joy to drink!
