Bachelet-Monnot is one of the rising stars of the Côte de Beaune, run by brothers Marc and Alexandre Bachelet from a small family domaine in Puligny-Montrachet. While best known for their sought-after Premier Cru whites, the brothers have also built a strong reputation for excellent-value reds from Maranges, a lesser-known appellation at the southern tip of the Côte de Beaune that consistently offers genuine Burgundy character at a fraction of more famous village prices.
Why do we like it?
This Vieilles Vignes Maranges is sourced from old Pinot Noir vines, giving the wine real concentration and depth that younger plantings simply can't match. Expect bright red cherry and raspberry fruit, a touch of earthy spice, and the fine, structured tannins typical of well-made Côte de Beaune Pinot Noir. Made with the same meticulous care the Bachelet brothers apply to their grander wines, this is a fantastic entry point into genuine Burgundy without the genuine Burgundy price tag.
