Bandicoot Run is a tiny, owner-operated vineyard in Longwarry, West Gippsland, run by Al and Adriana — a couple who left architecture careers to pursue organic farming and winemaking on their 50-acre family property. The vineyard is planted predominantly to Pinot Noir across seven different clones, farmed organically on alluvial soils, with the winery shed sitting just metres from the vines. The property is also a haven for the endangered Southern Brown Bandicoot, which gives the label its name.
Why do we like it?
Hand-picked in the cool of the morning and made with minimal intervention — unfined, unfiltered, and with only a touch of sulfur — this Pinot Noir is a genuine expression of place. Expect a juicy, lifted style with bright red fruit, supple texture and an easy-drinking charm, balanced by quiet earthy savouriness underneath. It's a wine that punches well above its modest price point, made by two people who clearly know and love their patch of Gippsland dirt.
