Domaine Comte Abbatucci is a 3 stars domaine by La Revue des Vins de France, the highest accolate you can give to a wine estate in France. And yes, for this month we are sending you a rosé rather than a white, it’s almost summer and we also want to show you that rosé can be excellent and complex! The estate is located in the wine region of Ajaccio. 18 hectares of biodynamically farmed vines grow at 100 meters above sea level, alongside fruit trees, olive trees, vegetables, and sheep. Established as one of Corsica’s oldest vineyards, the estate is known for preserving ancient grape varieties, including Niellucio, Sciacarello, and rare types like Morescola and Carcajolo Nera. Jean-Charles Abbatucci, who took over in 2000, continues his father Antoine’s work of reviving indigenous grapes. Today, 14 heirloom varieties thrive in harmony with a biodiverse ecosystem. Recently, the estate has also explored using seawater instead of copper and sulfur to promote healthier soils.
Why do we like it?
Jean-Charles’s wines are recognized worldwide for their balance, freshness, and vibrant acidity. The rose is made from 100% from Sciaccarellu grape also called Mammolo in that part of the world. It’s a premium rosé with body to it, it’s from the granite hills above Ajaccio, it is bursting with aromas of clementine, sweet summer melon, and touch of dried roses with a racy, long and fresh finish. The wine evokes a sun-drenched, windswept feeling, capturing the essence of the Mediterranean coastline and bottling the spirit of a Corsican summer for all to enjoy.
