2024 Moores Hill Pinot Noir, Tamar Valley, Tasmania

Moores Hill Estate sits on seven hectares in the Tamar Valley, northern Tasmania, and made history in 2017 as Tasmania's first 100% solar-powered, off-grid winery. The estate's wines are crafted entirely on site, with a hands-on, small-batch philosophy that lets each vineyard pick speak for itself.

The 2024 vintage brought a warm growing season to the Tamar Valley, and this Pinot Noir is a blend of clones selected to capture that ripeness while retaining the cool-climate freshness Tasmania is known for. Whole-bunch fermentation and gentle plunging in small open-top fermenters tease out colour and vibrancy, while time in French oak builds structure and length.

Why do we like it?

This is generous, juicy Pinot Noir with real fruit intensity: plum, cherry and blackberry sit alongside a touch of Asian spice and dried herb complexity. Fine-grained tannins and crunchy acidity give it plenty of grip without losing its approachability. It is delicious now but has the structure to reward a few years in the cellar — a brilliant example of why Tasmania has become one of the most exciting Pinot Noir regions in the world.
