The Domaine Perrin is a négociant brand created in 1997 by François Perrin and his brother Jean-Pierre of which his son Pierre's run it since 1999. The Perrin family are owners of the famous Châteauneuf-du-Pape estate Chateau de Beaucastel. As with the wines at Beaucastel, the Domaine Perrin wines are impeccably made and reflect the true nature of the terroir from which they come from. The wines made are all from the neighbouring Southern Rhône appellations to Châteauneuf-du-Pape, such as Vacqueyras and Gigondas. We can easily say that the Perrin family is one of the most reliable wine families in the Rhône valley, truly a name to look out for.
Why do we like it?
Gigondas is kind of the little brother/sister of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, making wine of similar style and using the same grape varieties. But not always as powerful and that’s why we love them. The l’Argnée is coming from a vineyard of less than 1 ha planted with pre-phylloxera vines (over 100 years vines!) in sandy soils, giving very low yields! Located at the south-western end of the appellation, at the heart of the historic village of Gigondas. Only 1,500 bottles are made! This 100% Grenache is velvety and generous very deep nose of ripe raspberry, strawberry, black olive, pepper, garrigue and leather. It possesses a real density and concentration layered with savoury and elegant elements too.
