2015 Marabino ‘Archimede Cru’ Nero d’Avola, Sicily

At Marabino everything started with the purchase of their vineyard. It begins with an old vineyard of Nero d’Avola, in calcareous soils slightly exposed to south, with density of 7,000 vines/ha. Mixed in the vineyard they had different fruit trees, from pomegranate trees to apricot trees and a large palm tree, which used to indicate the presence of a well. With over 50 years of age these vineyards have very deep roots, giving concentration and richness of salty and mineral elements to the wines.

Why do we like it?

Archimede was a scientist, inventor, and mathematician, he brought great prestige to Sicily. His name has always been linked to meditation and science. Marabino names this wine after this legend. It is indeed a wine of character and personality, biodynamically grown, with no use of herbicides, no chemicals or synthetic treatments. Only natural preparations are used alongside a careful pruning. The vinification is done with indigenous yeasts. The long maceration of the must is done with the skins in cherry barrels for at least 12 months, and the production is only 3,000 bottles!
