2022 Camin Larredya La Part Davant, Jurancon Sec

Welcome to the southwest part of France, in one of my favourite parts of the region regarding wines, Jurancon! Located near the city of Pau, it is a special place for many reasons. It’s simply one of the most beautiful French wine regions, with steep slopes and scenic landscape, including the often snow covered Pyrenees in the background.  In Jurancon, dry white wines and delicious sweet wines are made. One of the very best producers of the appellation is Camin Larredya, he is a 3 stars producer with the Revue des Vins de France (a well-respected wine magazine in France) which is the highest accolade given by the magazine. At the helm of Camin Larredya is Pau ex-rugby player Jean-Marc Grussaute who elevated the Domaine to the top of the Jurancon AOP. Thanks to his perseverance, work in the vineyard and in the cellar, his wines show the strength of the terroir with vibrant and fine wines texture.

Why do we like it?

The vines are farmed biodynamically since 2016. The Part Davant is made from 50 % Gros Manseng, 35% Petit Manseng and 15% Petit Courbu. The fermentation and ageing take place in barrels and foudres. It’s a great wine that could remind you of Chenin Blanc from Anjou but it’s lighter. There is a lovely brightness to it, fresh green apple and pear, a rich nose with a touch of pineapple and honey. The palate is broad, tense, it provides a lot of excitement.
