2020 Domaine Bonnigal Bodet, ‘Les Séminées’, Amboise, Loire Valley

Domaine Bonnigal Bodet is situated in the heart of the Loire Valley, in Amboise, specifically in Limeray. The estate has been passed down through generations since 1927, and since 2015, the 4th generation, represented by Jean-Baptiste Bonnigal and Stéphane Bodet, has been at the helm. The domaine embraces organic and biodynamic practices and have worked in other wine regions such as Bordeaux and around New Zealand.

The vineyard boasts a rich geological heritage with an impressive diversity of terroirs. The team exclusively works with local grape varieties, including Chenin, Côt (Malbec), Sauvignon Blanc, and Pineau d'Aunis, all planted on flinty clay and clay-limestone soils.

Why do we like it?

Pure Malbecs are a rarity in the Loire, but Bonnigal Bodet Vignerons has fully focused on Malbec for a number of years. In the Cahors in the south of France, Malbec wines are often very heavy, with a lot of alcohol and full tannins, but here in the Loire the alcohol content is somewhat lower and the powerful taste of the Malbec is combined with a pleasant freshness. The tannins in Les Séminées are silky soft. You taste a round fruity wine with spices and soft oak in the background. The wine has matured in wood for 24 months.
