Founded in 2016, Pauline and Laurent brought to life their dream of owning and running a winery. Laurent is originally from the Alps, and Pauline from Brittany. They met at engineering school and worked for one year as engineers in France but were not very happy in front of a computer. They travelled and worked in Australia in different farms and in a winery on the west coast. This is where they fell in love with wine and where the name l’Austral comes from. Pauline then studied in Burgundy to become an enologist while Laurent was a ski instructor during winter and sailing instructor during summer to fund the project.
Why do we like it?
Domaine de l’Austral is located in the heart of Puy-Notre-Dame, the opportunity to lease out and take over 4 ha of vines that have been grown biodynamically for 20 years was too good to pass. 2020 is their 4th vintage and the wines are getting truly remarkable!
