2020 Jermann “Vinnae”, Ribolla Gialla, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Italy

The history of this estate goes back to the 18th Century, when Stefanus migrated from the Austrian Burgenland to the village of Bilijana (today Slovenia). Later in 1881 Anton Jermann, Silvio's great-grandfather, moved to northern Italy. What we really like about them is their incredible eye to detail, their innovation, but retaining pride in their heritage and respect for their family beginnings. Today the estate is run by Silvio Jermann, a man in his late 60s, and the wines have just taken to a different level - very hi

“Vinnae” was first made in 1983 to celebrate the birth of Silvio Jermann’s second son and to commemorate the Jermann family’s 100 years of winemaking. The wine itself, made from 100% Ribolla Gialla grape, is juicy, somehow comparable to a Riesling with a very light spritzy sensation that goes away after a few minutes in the glass. Because of that, you may want to decant to open the aromas wide, allowing for fruit and floral character of the wine to show off. Typically, it will have light aromas of yellow apple, nutshell, a slight touch of bitterness in the palate and a very long lingering mineral finish.

 Why do we like it?

We suggest you serve it well chilled at about 12 degrees. You can drink it now, or you could keep for several years to come, as a 2020 it has a great deal of potential to evolve in the bottle.
