2020 Laughing Jack 'Jack's' Shiraz, Barossa Valley

Laughing Jack Wines was established in 1999, when Shawn made his first release of Laughing Jack Shiraz, now known as Greenock Shiraz. Back in 2002, only 355 dozen bottles were bottled of their wines. The vineyards and family farm are surrounded by Eucalyptus species, giving a strong sense of freshness to the vineyards. This wine comes from the family Greenock, Marananga & Moppa Hill vineyards. The grapes were de-stemmed and whole berries transferred into open top fermenters, Both receiving an occasional rack and return to chillers for cooling only. After fermentation, the wine was then drained into oak barrels and skins were hand-dug out of the fermenters into the basket press. The wine is matured with minimal racking until being bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Why do we like it?

On the nose it's showy, with plenty of black fruit aromas of blackberries, plums and mulberries. There’s also an intense spicy character with notes of pepper, cloves and cinnamon. On the mouth, the wine is rich, with fruit, oak spices and firm tannins. It's pleasurable right now, but you can also keep for the next 3 to 4 years
