2022 Matias Riccitelli, Hey Malbec, Mendoza, Argentina

This Mathias Riccitelli Malbec is quite something. We love how juicy, fresh and floral this wine is. Malbec in Argentina is generally very powerful, overripe and even oaky. The region itself promotes that style of wine, imagine high altitude (around 750m) keeping it colder, desertic land, very dry which stresses the vines, lots of sunshine giving lots of ripeness to grapes. They are then aged in oak to soften down and mature, hence Malbecs are so big in Mendoza.

But this Malbec is a lightish style that is very approachable now, to drink within the next few years, with no oak perception. In the nose and palate, it shows a powerful aromatic with ripe blackberries and black-cherries aromas, intense violet perfume and hints of dark chocolate.

Why do we like it?

Because Mathias is a very young passionate winemaker, known for being a madman in Mendoza and with a crazy energy within. We feel his wines are grown, not made, in a sense that grapes express themselves rather than through manipulation, wines are true, are alive and full of energy in a elegant way.
