Founded in 1842 in Vila Nova de Gaia, Niepoort is a historic Portuguese winery, now led by fifth-generation Dirk Niepoort. Initially a Port trader, it expanded into Douro still wines in 1991, acquiring Quinta de Nápoles. Dirk’s innovative approach blends tradition with modernity, earning global acclaim for expressive, terroir-driven wines from 25 hectares of old vines. He’s one of the absolute wine legends of Portugal.

Why do we like it?
The 2020 Niepoort Vertente Tinto, a blend of Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, and others, is aged 18 months in French oak. Garnet-hued, it offers ripe plum, blackberry, wild herbs, and oaky notes.
