2020 René Bouvier, Bourgogne Rouge ‘Le Chapitre Suivant’, Burgundy

Domaine René Bouvier is a truly exciting estate which has established its reputation as one of the very best Marsannay producers. The domaine was founded in 1910 by Henri Bouvier. It is now the grandson Bernard Bouvier who leads the operation with a master hand. Bernard participated in the development of the talented young generation of Burgundians. It has even established itself as one of the sure values of the Côte de Nuits and is today one of the leaders of this renewal. Bernard has placed more focus on work in the vineyards, which have been organic since 2009, and built a new winery in 2006, along with adapting the winemaking part, with gentle extraction and sensitive use of oak. He also believes that the picking date alone is responsible for 80% of the final wine’s style. The wines are settled by gravity and the fermentations are all native. What gives depth and emotion in the wines of the estate is the age of the vineyard, with an average age of 50 years, often including century-old vines.

Why do we like it?

This cuvée comes from different plots of Marsannay, Gevrey-Chambertin, Brochon and Fixin with an average age of vines of 40 years. It is therefore a Burgundy with varied terroirs but of noble origin. You will find in this wine the finesse of the fresh fruits of the Côte de Nuits.

For a Bourgogne, it has a great density and suave red strawberry and cherry aromatics. The palate shows a lot of life and a bit of gentle spice along with the fruits and floral notes. It has real material, which allows you to keep it for a few years, but with its fresh character, you will be tempted to taste during his youth.
