2021 Domaine Chanson Père et fils, Bourgogne Rouge, Burgundy, France

Ladies and gentlemen, Domaine Chanson is a Burgundy gem, founded in 1750 by Simon Verry,Chanson Père & Fils is one of Beaune’s oldest négociant houses and of very modest size. Situated in Beaune, the Chanson family, vineyard owners in Beaune, Savigny, and Pernand, took over in the 19th century. In 1999, Bollinger acquired the company and appointed Gilles de Courcel in 2002. Jean-Pierre Confuron of Domaine Confuron-Cotetidot in Vosne-Romanée crafts the wines, with his brother Yves overseeing Gilles de Courcel’s family domaine in Pommard. Jean-Pierre and Yves are some of the most gifted and talented producers in Burgundy!

Since 2009, the domaine vineyards are organic which is unusual for major négociants, Chanson reds include a significant proportion of stems. Most wines mature in about 30% new oak, with François Frères barrels favoured for reds and Damy for whites.

Why do we like it?

The Bourgogne rouge is an attractive wine with leafy, ripe cranberry and blackberry fruit and a subtle flavour of cinnamon. The palate shows a great density and moderate smooth tannins. What I like is the attractive, cool-climate Pinot character, it can’t be anything else!
