2021 Foradori ‘Fontanasanta Manzoni Bianco’, Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy

Fontanasanta Manzoni Bianco is one of Elisabetta Foradori's great whites. Known as the "Lady of Teroldego", Elisabetta is one of the leading winemakers of biodynamics in Italy and of wine maturation in amphora. From her first vintage as a 20 year-old graduate in 1984, Elisabetta has sought to improve the quality and depth of the family estate’s wines. Careful massale selection of the estate’s Teroldego vines in 1985 in order to cultivate 15 clones in diverse microclimates, to the early adoption of amphora as a way to enable extended skin contact, to early conversion to biodynamics in 2002, Elisabetta has constantly pushed boundaries.  She is located in the northeast of Italy, in Trentino Alto Adige, a beautiful Alpine region where some of the best white wines of Italy are made.

Why do we like it?

Manzoni Bianco is a cross of Riesling and Pinot Blanc, unusual and unique, that not many producers produce. For her Manzoni Bianco, Elisabetta leaves the wine on the skins in cement tanks, followed by 7 months of aging in acacia casks. The wine is lightly textured with sour-fresh quince and citrus quality, as it lingers, the wine keeps opening and shows some herbal and smoky notes. The finish is deliciously smooth with a mouth-watering finish; this bottle won’t last long
