Alberto Cabaco is someone who has made his wealth in Galicia's prosperous fishing industry and found himself drawn back to his birthplace of Gondomar, a picturesque village located in the Atlantic forests of the Minor Valley in the O Rosal subregion of Galicia. In 2015, Alberto embarked on an ambitious project, to buy terraced vineyards that are fragmented among 30 owners. Protected to the north by the Monte Castelo, the vineyards are located in one of the region’s driest valleys, combined with the fresh ocean breezes, the climate is perfect for the local varieties to thrive.
With the help of a young sommelier turned winemaker called Jorge Marcote, the vineyards were rebuilt and each variety was matched with different slope orientations. Here we are talking about Albarino of course, but also other grapes such as Caino Blanco, Loureira and Treixadura. The vineyards are farmed organically, and the first vintage was released in 2021 and made a big impression. We are happy to be able to present you the 2022.
Why do we like it?
The texture is what will strike you first about this wine, although it's also densely floral, it feels like sucking on citrus peel and apricot stones. Deep stone fruit and a vertical salinity.
