2022 Jean-Marc Boillot Bourgogne Aligote, France

Jean-Marc Boillot, grandson of Etienne Sauzet, previously served as winemaker for Olivier Leflaive. With this blend of prestigious winemaking heritage and experience, it's no surprise that Jean-Marc produces outstanding wines. He is one of the rare talents in Burgundy, excelling in both red and white wine production at the highest level.

Now working alongside his daughter Lydie and son Benjamin, Jean-Marc established his own domaine in 1985, starting with rented vines in Pommard. In 1988, he added plots in Volnay and Pommard from his grandfather’s side, and in 1991, inherited one-third of Domaine Etienne Sauzet's white vines from his grandmother. Today, the domaine spans 11 hectares, including generic Burgundy.

Why do we like it?

Aligote is Burgundy’s other white grape after Chardonnay. Nowadays, it’s been taken much more seriously than in the past. The one from Jean-Marc is a treat with vibrant herbal and citrus aroma with a touch of cedar and fresh pears. Lively, crisp but with a round texture and with an attractively dry chalky texture giving this another dimension.
