2022 Marcobarba 'Barbarossa' Veneto, Italy

The inception of Marcobarba came from an idea conceived by Marco and Stefano, which was subsequently brought to life and sustained by the efforts of the "Barbaboyz" at Menti Winery in Gambellara. These individuals oversee the maintenance of small parcels of neglected vineyards owned by elderly widows, situated amidst the contrasting landscapes of the white sedimentary terrains surrounding Lonigo and the rich, volcanic soils of Gambellara. Concurrently, they play a significant role in the production of Giovanni Menti Wines. Through the implementation of biodynamic practices in grape cultivation. 

Why do we like it?

From an exclusively biodynamic viticulture, interventions reduced to the minimum and always in harmony with the vineyard. Barbarossa is a red wine made with a mix of red-grape varieties, both native of the territory and international ones. Some of them are known, others not so much. Fermented wine with indigenous yeasts, in cement tanks; aged for at least 6 months in steel tanks and bottled unfiltered with a small addition of sulfur. In the glass shows notes of cherry, raspberry and strawberry. It is a vibrant wine with and amazing affinity with food. Bring on your best recipe of duck or your best charcuterie board. No need for decanting, can drink now or keep 5 years and serve in large red wine glasses.
