2022 Rotem & Mounir Saouma "Inopia" Côtes du Rhône France

Rotem and Mounir Saouma are best known as the team behind Lucien Le Moine, one of Burgundy's most celebrated micro-négociants. In 2011, the couple bought a desolate, stony plot of land in Orange, on the edge of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, and named it Inopia — Latin for "made from nothing." What started as barren ground is now considered one of the most exciting estates in the Southern Rhône.

Why do we like it?

Built mostly from old-vine Grenache with Mourvèdre, Counoise, Syrah and Cinsault, this Côtes du Rhône is made with the same obsessive attention to detail Mounir brings to his Burgundy wines — long maceration, extended ageing in cement eggs, foudres and barrels, all in pursuit of "extreme purity." The result drinks like a Châteauneuf-du-Pape in disguise: suave, perfumed, earthy and deep, with silky tannins and real length. This is a wine that consistently overdelivers on price, and a perfect example of why Inopia has become a name serious collectors seek out.
