2019 Domaine Patrick Baudouin "Clos des Bruandières" Anjou France

Domaine Patrick Baudouin is one of the great names of Anjou, in France's Loire Valley — a region long overshadowed by its neighbours but capable of producing whites of remarkable depth and ageing potential from Chenin Blanc. Patrick Baudouin has spent decades refining a meticulous, low-intervention approach that lets the region's varied schist and clay-limestone soils truly shine.

Why do we like it?

Clos des Bruandières is a single-vineyard expression of Chenin Blanc, and it shows the variety at its most textured and complex — ripe orchard fruit, honeyed notes, a touch of saline minerality, and the bright, racy acidity that gives Anjou whites their remarkable ability to age. This is a serious, contemplative white that rewards patience, both in the cellar and in the glass.
